GREAT NEWS - MEXICO TRAVEL ALERTS LIFTED

The U. S. Department of State wishes to inform U.S. citizens traveling to and residing in Mexico that on May 15, 2009, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lifted its recommendation that American citizens avoid all nonessential travel to Mexico. As a result of the CDC's decision, the State Department's Travel Alert relating to the 2009-H1N1 influenza outbreak is no longer in effect. The U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office has also lifted travel restrictions to Mexico. LEARN MORE.

The hotel is superbly sited at the junction of two great beaches, the Playa Marinaro and Playa Zicatela, home of the Mexican Pipeline. An architectural jewel, the mediterranean style buildings have enclosed an intimate world of its own with beautiful garden patios, curving stairways and shady palapas.

At present, Puerto Escondido can be reached via Mexicana airlines, from Mexico city and from the city of Oaxaca. Also one can fly into Bahias de Huatulco from Mexico city, and take a country cab ride of 1 1/4 hours to Puerto Escondido (transportation from Huatulco may be provided by the Hotel Santa Fe).

We are now offering some of the finest coffee in world from a 19th century coffee farm in the cloud forest above Puerto Escondido. Find our more about Finca Las Nieves - "The Coffee Farm Of The Snows". We will have eco bungalows available in December for your enjoyment. Come and enjoy our fine coffee and old Mexico hospitality while wandering through a virgin cloud forest with fresh mountain steams and an amazing variety flora and fauna.

Puerto Escondido was the first tourist center of the "Costa Chica " (Little Coast) region of southern Mexico. Known since the 19th Century as Punta Escondida, it was a fishing harbor and had a pier for loading locally produced coffee and precious woods. Puerto Escondido retains much of it's original charm and is sometimes referred to as "The Mexican Pipeline", an internationally recognized surfing paradise and home of an annual international surf contest.

During the 30's, the port began to develop, but it remained a remote spot, where beaches of fine white sand were caressed by crystal and emerald waters in a setting of exotic vegetation and rich wildlife. During the 70's, the blend of these elements began to catch the fancy of daring travelers who sought an unspoiled environment where they could find adventure and beauty.

In 1982, both the federal and state governments gave their total support to making Puerto Escondido an exciting travel destination on southern Mexico's Pacific rim. An airport was approved and built and communication was improved with completion of the Pan American Highway through Southern Mexico.

The Hotel Santa Fe was one of the first upscale hotels to be built in Puerto Escondido and continues to set the standards by which travelers can be assured of a wonderful time and professional service.

Testimonials From Our Guests

***We just wanted to say THANK YOU for suggesting and booking the Santa Fe Hotel in Puerto Escondido for our honeymoon. We absolutely loved it and were so glad we spent 12 days there! Thanks again! Jackie Legge.

***Hello: I spent a most marvelous 24 hours recently, during the last week of november 2008, at Finca las Nieves.
I was travelling by myself and staying for a week at Hotel Santa Fe in Puerto Escondido.

I read about la Finca on Santa Fe's website and immediately knew I wanted to visit and spend a night there.
Our driver, guide, instructor, chef, interpreter, and caretaker was Gustavo Boltjes, a tri-lingual young man who clearly loves oustanding people, coffee, the environment, and Oaxaca!

Everything was interesting...from the drive to the plantation, to the hike and nature exploration around its property, to the coffee growing and making process.

Everything was delicious...from the oranges hacked down and opened w/ Gustavo's machete during one of several hikes to the mout-watering mole and homemade tortillas served the night before. Three filling and delicious meals plus snacks were provided.

The rooms were simple, but spacios and lovely, well-equipped...with modern bathrooms, plenty of storage, comfortable mattresses and pillows. What a great sleep I had, after a great meal, lovely company ( 2 couples...one from Sweden and the other from Denmark), and the most fabulous star gazing imaginable.

I highly recommend a night at Finca Las Nieves as a memorable and most pleasant experience for anyone travelling alone or as a couple or family! Laura N. Chick, Los Angeles, California

***My wife and I liked Puerto Escondido better than all of the places we have been in Mexico. We found the people genuine and nice, the landscape beautiful and were glad to see that it has not yet been ruined by mega resorts and U.S. based stores. It gave us a true feel of being somewhere different. It is exactly what we were looking for.

The Hotel Sante Fe was one of the best that I have stayed at also. It is very quiet, well taken care of and the master suite was worth the money with balconies in all directions over the beach. They are, however, putting a new concrete boulevard all the way from Hotel Sante Fe to the mid way point of the strip. So, you might tell folks that are staying there it will be noisy during the day until this is completed. With the new boulevard, this strip will be absolutely beautiful. Also, since we are both Vegetarians, we found the food selection at the Hotel Sante Fe to be great. I would never have expected as much in Mexico. Best Regards, Don
